Vietjet Strikes Deal for 20 New Airbus A330neo Wide-Body Jets

Vietjet has entered into an aircraft acquisition agreement with the European aerospace company Airbus, securing 20 A330-900 wide-body planes. This deal represents a significant step forward in Vietjet's growth strategy over the coming ten years.

The signing, which took place on Monday, was witnessed by State President Luong Cuong and French President Emmanuel Macron as part of the latter’s state visit to Vietnam.

The extended directive will assist The airline is expanding its global route network. Throughout the Asia-Pacific region, this allows for an expansion of flights on popular routes while also getting ready for potential future long-haul services to Europe.

Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, the Chairwoman and CEO of Vietjet, stated that the contemporary Airbus planes, known for their superior performance and fuel efficiency, have played a crucial role in propelling Vietjet’s growth. She also emphasized that the airline remains dedicated to investing extensively in an up-to-date fleet, which will further strengthen economic and technological ties between both nations.

President Wouter van Wersch of Airbus International announced that Vietjet has emerged as one of the fastest-growing airlines globally.

The updated contract increases Vietjet's firm orders for the A330neo series to 40 airplanes, doubling their previous commitment. Moreover, the airline also holds an order for 96 narrow-body aircraft from the A320neo lineup. Currently, Vietjet maintains a fully Airbus fleet consisting of 115 planes, which includes 108 A320 family jets along with seven A330-300s.

The A330-900 comes equipped with the most recent version of the Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines and has a maximal range extending up to 13,300 kilometers. This aircraft includes Airbus’s renowned Airspace cabin, offering travelers an elevated travel experience through greater comfort, roominess, and thoughtful design aspects such as bigger individual areas, increased overhead bins, cutting-edge illumination technology, along with top-tier inflight entertainment and connection facilities.

By the close of April 2025, the A330 had accumulated over 1,800 firm orders from more than 130 global customers. Similar to all Airbus models now being manufactured, the A330neo supports fuel mixtures containing up to 50% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), with plans to attain full compatibility with SAF by 2030.

Vietjet is utilizing its extended A330 fleet for flights to international locations such as Australia, India, and Kazakhstan, offering travelers enhanced travel choices, notably superior business-class accommodations. This larger A330 fleet allows the airline to extend its reach to more distant places and effectively cater to the changing needs of worldwide travelers.
