Trump Warns Musk: Backing Democrats Could Lead to 'Serious Consequences' in Singapore

US President Donald Trump on Saturday indicated he had no interest in mending ties with his ex-ally and one-time campaign supporter, Elon Musk. He cautioned Musk that he might encounter "severe repercussions" should he choose to support the opposition.

During a telephone interview with NBC’s Kristen Welker, Trump stated that he does not plan to reconcile with Musk. When directly queried about whether he believed his connection with the multi-billionaire head of Tesla and SpaceX had ended, Trump replied, "Yeah, I'd say so."

I'm preoccupied with other matters," Trump went on. "As you know, I secured a massive electoral victory. I provided him with numerous advantages well before these events took place. During my initial term, I also offered him several opportunities and even rescued his career. Therefore, I do not plan on engaging with him.

The US president likewise delivered a caution as rumors circulated that Musk might support Democratic lawmakers and contenders in the 2026 midterm elections.

"If he proceeds with this action, he will face the repercussions," Trump stated to NBC, but did not specify what these consequences might entail. Musk's enterprises hold numerous profitable government contracts.

This development follows a dramatic rift in the relationship between the US president and the globe’s wealthiest individual due to criticisms from Musk regarding Trump's budget bill, which he voiced initially through his social media platform X earlier in the week.

Musk cautioned that the legislation would lead to an increased federal deficit and labeled it as a “repulsive monstrosity.”

Based on the analysis from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, this legislation aims to cut both spending and taxes; however, it would result in approximately 10.9 million additional individuals lacking health coverage and could increase deficits by around $2.4 trillion throughout the next ten years.

On Thursday, Trump criticized Musk’s intense response to the "big beautiful bill" awaiting approval from Congress. Soon after, both of them started exchanging harsh personal jabs on social media platforms, leaving the White House and Republican congressional leadership struggling to gauge the consequences.

As the exchange escalated, Musk proposed that Trump ought to face impeachment and alleged, without providing proof, that authorities were hiding details regarding the president’s connection with notorious pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. However, it seems Musk may have retreated from this stance as he removed his related tweet mentioning Epstein over the weekend.

In an interview with "manosphere" comedian Theo Von, U.S. Vice President JD Vance attempted to minimize the conflict. He told Von that Musk was committing "a huge error" by targeting Trump, describing Musk’s actions as being driven by frustration from someone who he called an "emotional guy."

"I hope that someday Elon returns to the group. Perhaps this isn’t feasible at present as he has become extremely radical," Vance stated.

Vance referred to Musk as "an incredible entrepreneur" and stated that Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, which aimed at reducing governmental expenditure and resulted in the layoffs or displacement of thousands of employees, was "highly effective."

The US Vice President said the bill's central goal was not to cut spending but to extend the 2017 tax cuts approved in Trump’s first term.

It's a solid bill," Vance stated. "But it's far from flawless.
