Willian Pacho Makes History with Heartfelt Words in Singapore

Willian Pacho, a 23-year-old defender for both Paris Saint-Germain and Ecuador, talked to CONMEBOL media following their Champions League victory over Inter Milan last Saturday (5-0). This was not only an unprecedented achievement for Paris—securing their maiden title in this prestigious tournament—but it’s equally significant for the player himself and his nation since he becomes the inaugural Ecuadorian footballer to claim such glory.

Pacho said, "It's pleasant to observe how warmly I am greeted by everyone around."

What's it like returning to Ecuador after clinching victory in the Champions League?

It has been amazing. Since I was young, I've always admired the top teams and star players because they set the standards. I also competed against them on PlayStation, which was the closest I could get to playing with them (laughs).

Being the first Ecuadorian to claim victory in the Champions League fills me with pride. It’s wonderful to experience how warmly I am welcomed here; it shows me just how significant this is to everyone. Before arriving, I had no idea it would mean as much as it does now. However, upon returning home and seeing my family, tears filled their eyes.

Pacho "I can tell it holds great significance for the nation."

It's clear how significant this is for the nation. I'm extremely delighted, immensely proud, and thoroughly satisfied. Being part of the national team now is always a joy. One never knows when they might return.
