JAKARTA,Journalist Irfan Kamil became a victim of a glass-breaking theft in Menteng, Central Jakarta, Monday (11/3/2025) night.
The incident began when Kamil, his nickname, was eating in front of Cokro 115 Menteng.
At that time, Kamil and his friend named Ponco parked their cars near the location.
"Parkir is lined up right in front of the road because the store is on the roadside. We ate there for about an hour," said Kamil when confirmed., Tuesday (11/4/2025).
"After eating around 10:00 PM WIB, we wanted to go back (home). Ponco entered his car, and I also wanted to enter my car. When I was about to open the door, suddenly I saw that the back window of my car was broken," he explained.
At that time, Kamil saw glass fragments scattered on the back seat of his car.
She immediately remembered the briefcase that had been placed on the back seat.
So, Kamil immediately approached Ponco, who was still at the scene but had already entered the car.
Kamil told his friend that his car window was broken.
"I immediately started hitting Ponco's car, I said (the) window of my car was broken by someone. He was surprised. We checked together," he said.
The two friends then reported the incident of destruction to the staff at Cokro 115.
According to Kamil, the shop staff once helped to check the CCTV footage.
However, the CCTV cameras apparently did not face the location where Kamil's car was, so the incident of the broken glass was not recorded.
"From there, it was crowded, but none of them noticed that an incident (glass damage) had occurred, even though the distance was close," he said.
Loss of millions of rupiah
As a result of the incident, Kamil lost some items, namely a backpack-style work bag containing a laptop and its charger.
Then, there was a small bag inside the large backpack that also disappeared.
Inside there are work tools, two power banks, some data cables, and several hundred thousand rupiah.
"ID card and the President's Palace ID card also disappeared, then several hundred thousand rupiah. That's what I remember," said Kamil.
As a result of the car window damage and theft of work equipment, Kamil's losses are estimated to be around Rp 10 million.
After the incident, Kamil immediately reported to Menteng Police Station.
"I immediately decided to make a report to the Metro Menteng Police Station. The police have also processed the crime scene. On Thursday, I will be asked to give a statement," he explained.
Hope the important item can be returned
Kamil suspected that the incident he experienced was purely a case of ordinary theft.
The perpetrator intentionally broke the car window to take some items.
"There is lost property, there is also a laptop, there's not much data inside, just some photos and notes with regular news entries," he said.
She hopes that the incident she experienced can be a lesson for all parties.
Kamil reminded that if you have valuable items, it's best not to leave them inside the car.
Then, if parking the car, it should always be monitored.
"This can be a lesson for all of us. First, make sure that valuable items are not left inside the car. Second, if parking on the roadside, make sure the car is under surveillance," said Kamil.
She also hopes that the police can soon catch the perpetrator and the stolen items can be returned.
"Minimal ID press (bisa dikembalikan). Saya jurnalis, tidak punya ID press, Pak, diambil semua," katanya.
