Morocco Sees 80% Decline in Measles Cases: Vaccination Drive Wins Big, Minister Announces
At the House of Representatives during an oral query regarding the status of the measles immunization drive, Tahraoui stated that the current nationwide weekly occurrence ratio is one instance for every 100,000 individuals. He highlighted that ever since the initial instances of measles surfaced in Morocco, the ministry has endeavored to formulate a comprehensive strategy aimed at curbing its dissemination, bolstered by various practical interventions.
The minister further provided insights into the epidemiological surveillance of the illness, pointing out that by May 16, the immunization records for over 10.76 million minors aged below 18 were confirmed, representing 98.57% of this specific demographic.
The initiative pinpointed 754,202 children who remained unvaccinated or only partly vaccinated, he noted further. He emphasized that due to extensive ground efforts, 586,912 of those kids received vaccinations, equating to roughly a 78% success rate.
He emphasized that this initiative considerably narrowed the gap in vaccination rates and curbed the outbreak's dissemination.
Moreover, Tahraouri highlighted that this campaign exceeded the 95% national verified rate for complete measles vaccination coverage among all children under 18 years old—a target endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO).
