Over 1.5 Million Candidates Scored Below 200 in 2025 UTME, JAMB Reports

More than 1.5 million of the 1,955,069 students who took part in the recently concluded 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination obtained scores lower than 200.
The disclosure came through the statistical evaluation of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) outcomes published by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Monday.
The data showed that merely 420,415 applicants achieved a score higher than 200 in the 2025 version of the UTME.
The statistics indicated that 75 percent of the applicants obtained scores under 200 on the test, while fewer than 1% achieved marks over 300.
In the statement released alongside the data, JAMB stated, "A total of 40,247 underage candidates were allowed to showcase their remarkable talents. Nevertheless, merely 467 of these students (1.16%) attained scores that met the criteria for exceptional ability set for the UTME, while their outcomes from the remaining three phases remain unannounced."
Out of all the registered candidates, 97 were found to be involved in examination irregularities, whereas 2,157 are presently under investigation for potential misconduct.
Furthermore, 71,701 candidates did not show up. Individuals with biometric issues are currently being investigated, and once they are cleared, they will be assigned new exam dates at specified centers.
Moreover, several results, encompassing those from visually impaired candidates as well as participants in the JEOG candidate category, remain under processing.
“A press conference to unveil the individual outcomes for each candidate and assist with verifying the results will take place later this week.”
