Minister Teams Up With APC Chairmen to Oversee Road Project

The Minister of Works, David Umahi , has delegated the oversight of national road projects to the Forum of All Progressives Congress (APC) State Chairmen.

Umahi clarified that the initiative seeks to improve prompt and comprehensive supervision of contractors so as to guarantee adherence to project requirements and deadlines.

This partnership will enable the State Chairmen to inspect construction sites, track project advancement, and submit their findings to him so he can take suitable actions according to their suggestions.

Following a courteous visit from the APC Chairman to the Minister at his Abuja office, it was highlighted that President Bola Tinubu’s government is dedicated to comprehensive national progress. The statement also mentioned that the President’s economic policies are starting to produce notable outcomes.

The delegation, headed by the Secretary of the Forum and APC chairman of Cross River State, Alphonsus Eba, who represented the Forum Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi, received praise from the Minister for their vision and dedication to advancing good governance within the nation.

Appreciating the Party leaders for their committed efforts in bolstering and broadening the APC at the local level, the Minister emphasized that their visit occurred during a "pivotal moment."

He stated, "I appreciate your acknowledgment of the President's continuous endeavors and your support for reconciling with opposing factions. Your contributions have fostered an environment conducive to returning and reintegrating."

Using my home state as an illustration, we've made advancements thanks to the collaborative work between the Governor and party leaders. Similarly, this has been observed across numerous states such as Delta, where concerted efforts have attracted individuals from opposing political factions.

To emphasize the high standards and projected economic benefits of the nation’s large-scale road development initiatives, Umahi countered objections raised by opponents with mention of the favorable reviews these projects have garnered from global entities.

“On both regional and global scales, we have safeguarded the extent and significance of multiple national infrastructure initiatives. Additionally, our efforts have been praised by leaders abroad, such as those in the United States, recognizing the effectiveness of the administration.”

The President took office during an economic downturn. With his guidance, the country has achieved stability, and foreign reserves have increased.

Multiple infrastructure initiatives have been initiated or scaled up throughout every part of the nation and are advancing consistently.

In the Northwestern region, significant projects encompass the 1,068 km Sokoto road, where 258 km passes through Kebbi. Additionally, construction activities continue in Zamfara and Katsina, with multiple segments approaching finishing stages.

In the Northern Central area, significant initiatives encompass the Abuja–Lokoja highway, the Shendam Bridge located in Plateau State, along with various sections of the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria expressway.

The southwestern region is experiencing considerable investments, as development progresses on the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, the Sagamu–Ore road, and the Badagry expressway.

In the southern region of Nigeria, key infrastructure projects like the Warri-Benin highway, the Ughoton Bridge development, and the construction of reinforced concrete roads in Bayelsa are currently progressing.

The Southeast region has achieved significant landmarks such as finishing construction on the second Niger Bridge, progressing with development on the Enugu-Onitsha expressway, and enhancing road connections between Enugu and both Ebonyi and Abakaliki.

Similarly, in the North East region, initiatives like the Numan–Cham road and bridge project along with the newly contracted Maiduguri–Monguno corridor are improving linkages and fostering regional cohesion.

“Some of these projects have been re-awarded after delays or contractor issues. The government is also developing monitoring systems,” Umahi said.

He stressed that even though they took over a challenging economic environment, Tinubu’s government has stayed resolute and constant in pushing forward significant financial reforms.

He noted that the opposition has not yet presented feasible alternatives to the President's initiatives aimed at revitalizing the dormant economy.

"The abolition of the fuel subsidy and the liberalization of the Naira were challenging choices, yet they have created an opportunity for long-term stability, autonomy, and economic discipline," stated the Minister.

Umahi observed that despite early worries, the country is now seeing encouraging indications of economic improvement. One of the developing advantages from the current reform efforts can be seen in the reduction of food inflation.

"Our initiatives and policies in agriculture are starting to steady prices in crucial marketplaces, and this is merely the start," he remarked additionally.

He recognized and agreed to the proposal for joint oversight of federal highway initiatives throughout the states.

To emphasize his dedication, he established a specialized communication and engagement platform for interacting with the Chairmen, aimed at enhancing local supervision of current projects.

He motivated party members to frequently inspect construction locations, evaluate the standard of work being done, and swiftly bring up any concerns.
