Tyrone Narrowly Edged by Wicklow in Thrilling All-Ireland Junior Camogie Showdown

Glen Dimplex Premier Junior Championship second round

Armagh 7-38 Louth 0-0

Tyrone 1-9 Wicklow 1-12

Roscommon 0-12 Laois 4-11

The major match in the Glen Dimplex Premier Junior Championship took place in Derrytresk, with Tyrone looking to secure their position for elimination against Wicklow.

Wicklow began with an ideal start as Aoife Nic Donncha scored both a goal and a point within the opening five minutes. Nevertheless, Emer Cunningham responded with two points, followed by one from Áine McNulty. Despite this, the opposing team managed to regain momentum and create some distance. Midway through the half, however, Cunningham added another goal for Wicklow.

Tyrone subsequently ended the first half strongly, claiming a 1-6 to 1-5 advantage going into the interval. Nevertheless, Ciara Connolly converted two frees upon resumption to put Wicklow back in front, followed by adding a long-range score.

A score from Áine McNulty and two from Tyrone’s top player Emer Cunningham kept just one point separating the teams with less than ten minutes remaining.

Sadly, the home team failed to find the back of the net again, but late contributions from Connolly and Nic Donnacha secured a crucial win for Wicklow, likely propelling them towards the semi-finals.

In another match, Armagh was anticipated to easily secure victory over Louth, which they achieved by scoring an impressive 6-22 in the opening half alone. This tally featured a trio of goals from Sinéad Quinn.

The remaining four goals were netted by Corinna Doyle (1-8), Tierna Maxwell (1-6), and Katie Convie (1-4). Additionally, half-time replacement Ríonagh Leneghan contributed with 1-2.

In the other match within the group, Laois replicated their league final victory over Roscommon at Woodmount.

On this occasion, they netted three times in the opening half to take a commanding lead of 3-7 to 0-4 by halftime. They further increased their advantage to 16 points when they added another goal just ten minutes after the restart.

In their match against Roscommon, who had previously fallen short against Armagh in the initial round, they managed to regroup over the last twenty minutes of play. Tara Naughton contributed with four successful points, while Celine Gaquin added two more, making sure the score reflected a somewhat closer contest.

Down, the sole Ulster representative in the All-Ireland U23 championship, made their debut in Clonduff and quickly found their stride, scoring 3 goals and 5 points before Westmeath managed to get on the scoreboard at the 17-minute mark.

Niamh Savage, Niamh McGrath, and Shanna Fettis were responsible for the goals scored during their 4-6 to 1-9 win, with McGrath also contributing an additional goal.

Tyrone E Cunningham 1-3, Á McNulty 0-5, A Hagan 0-1.

Wicklow A Nic Dhonnachta 1-3, C Connelly 0-5, R Byrne agus A O'Toole ar a dtugtar go príomhphointe 0-2 an chéile.
