Trump Threatens Musk: "Severe Consequences" Looms If He Supports Democrats

US President Donald Trump on Saturday indicated he had no interest in mending fences with his one-time ally and campaign supporter Elon Musk. He cautioned Musk that there could be "severe repercussions" if he chooses to support the opposing side.

During a telephone interview with NBC’s Kristen Welker, Trump stated that he does not plan to reconcile with Musk. When directly queried about whether this meant his connection with the multi-billionaire head of Tesla and SpaceX had ended, Trump replied, "Yeah, I'd say so."

I'm currently preoccupied with other matters," Trump went on. "As you know, I secured a landslide victory in the election. I had offered him numerous advantages well before these events took place. During my initial term, I provided him with several opportunities and even rescued his life. Therefore, I do not plan on engaging with him.

The US president likewise delivered a caution as rumors circulated about Musk potentially supporting Democratic officials and contenders during the 2026 midterm elections.

"If he proceeds with that, he will have to face the repercussions," Trump said to NBC, although he didn't specify what these consequences might entail. Musk's enterprises hold numerous profitable government contracts.

This development follows a dramatic rift in the relationship between the US president and the planet’s wealthiest individual due to criticism from Musk regarding Trump's budget bill. This critique initially surfaced on Musk's social media platform X earlier in the week.

Musk cautioned that the legislation would lead to an increased federal deficit and labeled it as a "repulsive monstrosity."

Based on the findings of the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, this legislation aims to cut both expenditures and tax rates. However, it could result in approximately 10.9 million additional individuals lacking health coverage and might increase budget shortfalls by around $2.4 trillion throughout ten years.

On Thursday, Trump criticized Musk’s intense response to the "big beautiful bill" awaiting approval from Congress. Soon after, they started exchanging harsh personal jabs online, causing the White House and Republican congressional leaders to hurriedly evaluate the consequences of their feud.

As the exchange heated up, Musk proposed that Trump ought to face impeachment and alleged without proof that authorities were hiding details regarding the president’s connections with notorious pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. However, the Tesla CEO seemed to retract this statement by removing the related tweet about Epstein on Saturday.

In an interview with "manosphere" comedian Theo von, U.S. Vice President JD Vance attempted to minimize the conflict. He told Elon Musk he was making a "big error" by targeting Trump, describing him as an "emotionally charged person" who gets easily annoyed.

"I hope that someday Elon returns to the group. Perhaps this isn’t feasible right now since he has become extremely radical," Vance stated.

Vance referred to Musk as "an incredible entrepreneur" and stated that Musk's Department of Government Efficiency, aimed at reducing public expenditure and resulting in layoffs or transfers for numerous employees, was "highly effective."

The US Vice President said the bill's central goal was not to cut spending but to extend the 2017 tax cuts approved in Trump’s first term.

It's a decent bill," Vance stated. "But it's far from being flawless.
