Ryan Reynolds and Colin Hanks Unveil "John Candy: I Like Me" for TIFF's Golden Anniversary

"I Like Me": John Candy, directed by Colin Hanks and produced by Ryan Reynolds, will kick off the 50th anniversary of the Toronto International Film Festival. The screening is scheduled for September 4 at Roy Thomson Hall.
Candy was a comedian hailing from Toronto who gained prominence through his appearances on Canada’s sketch comedy series "SCTV". He later showcased his talents in movies like "Spaceballs", "Uncle Buck", "Planes, Trains and Automobiles", "National Lampoon's Vacation", and "Little Shop of Horrors". suddenly passed away due to a heart attack at age 43 in 1994.
"Fans around the globe have enjoyed John Candy’s comedy throughout their lives," stated Cameron Bailey, CEO of TIFF. "It brings us joy that John’s international success began here in Toronto. Colin Hanks has created an immensely enjoyable film featuring many of Hollywood’s leading actors, yet much like John himself, this movie truly resonates with warmth and sincerity.”
"John Candy: I Like Me" offers an honest portrayal of the comedian’s life both on-screen and behind-the-scenes, including personal home footage and insightful conversations with his family members, close friends, and colleagues. As stated in the official synopsis, “this documentary delves into the journey of a man who was not only a devoted son, spouse, parent, companion, and performer dedicated to spreading happiness but also someone grappling with private challenges and industry demands.” The project is supported by Amazon MGM and is scheduled for release on Prime Video this autumn.

Apart from the opening night film, TIFF's schedule has yet to be announced. The festival is scheduled to run from September 4th to September 14th this year.
