Rahul resorting to lies, misinformation to cover up shortcomings: Piyush Goyal

New Delhi, June 7 (PTI) On Saturday, Union Minister Piyush Goyal charged Rahul Gandhi with spreading falsehoods and misleading information to mask his inadequacies. The accusation came after the Congress leader alleged that the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections were part of an elaborate scheme to manipulate democratic processes.

In an essay featured in "The Indian Express," Gandhi’s comments prompted a strong backlash from prominent figures within the BJP, who charged the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha with fabricating outlandish plots as a result of their setbacks following several electoral defeats.

It is regrettable that Rahul Gandhi has to rely on falsehoods and misleading information to mask his deficiencies. His continuous assaults on India’s democratic institutions merely reveal his contempt for our Constitution, crafted by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar,” Goyal stated in an X post.

In response, the minister cited an article from the "OpIndia" website that refuted Gandhi's allegations.

The BJP alleged that the Congress leader was undermining people's faith in the electoral system by launching attacks on democratic institutions. They claimed this strategy is being employed because he anticipates his party’s likely loss in the forthcoming elections and thus seeks to erode public confidence. PTI SKU RC
