'No Surrender': GOP Congressman Launches Inquiry Into Mayor Criticizing Trump Policies
The Nashville Mayor, Freddie O'Connell (D), has faced accusations from Representative Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) of "assisting and facilitating" unlawful migration. Ogles declared he would be initiating an inquiry into the mayor due to his stance against ICE operations within the city.
O'Connell is set to be investigated by two federal committees, according to reports. The ABC affiliate WKRN-TV located in Nashville.
In 2018 Ogles became the mayor of Maury County, Tennessee, serving until 2022. He was accompanied by various Tennessee state officials and members of law enforcement when he declared that both the Homeland Security and Judiciary Committees would initiate an inquiry into the actions of the county’s leadership.

The investigation will center on the mayor's conduct and whether federal money was possibly mishandled in relation to suspected illegal acts linked to immigration issues.
At a press conference on Monday, Ogles stated: "I will not back down. I will not yield. I will consistently support law enforcement."
"I want to reclaim both my community and my country," he said additionally.
The investigation stems from escalating conflicts between community members and federal immigration authorities. Following O'Connell's comments regarding a "combined security operation" conducted in early May by ICE officers alongside the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Ogles called for an examination of the mayor's office.

As per a declaration made by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the mission led to 196 apprehensions.
The State Department claimed that the Nashville mayor supports "policies favoring illegal activities."
O'Connell argues that federal authorities have not presented "any evidence" showing that those detained during the May operation had "criminal records or criminal intentions." He also raised doubts about whether these individuals were afforded their constitutional right to due process.
