No Religious Discrimination in Modern Bangladesh, Says Mahfuz to US Delegation

Dhaka, May 27 -- According to Information and Broadcasting AdviserMd Mahfuj Alam on Monday, the citizens of Bangladesh are experiencing the greatest degree of religious freedom ever.

During his interaction with a U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom delegation at the Industries Ministry, he shared this comment.

Emphasizing the nation's enduring legacy of peaceful cohabitation between Muslims and Hindus, Mahfuz stated, "Currently, no individual in Bangladesh experiences prejudice due to their religious beliefs. All people, regardless of their faith, are exercising their equal rights."

He stated that the government is entirely dedicated to facilitating the serene observance of religious festivities throughout all communities.

The Advisor additionally noted that there have been no reports of minority persecution in recent months and affirmed that the administration has adopted a strong position against such events.

Sports Advisor states that religious harmony will not be used for political gain.

"Some individuals are engaged in nefarious activities, disseminating misinformation that minority groups face oppression in Bangladesh. It is crucial for all of us to oppose these unfounded claims," he stated firmly.

Mahfuj Alam further added that some minority communities consider themselves aligned with the Awami League (AL) and continue to support the party, which he described as very unfortunate.

He similarly aimed for collaboration with individuals across various fields throughout the continuous effort of rebuilding the nation.

Advisor Nahid highlights the government's stringent security protocols for Durga Puja, urging for communal amity.

The event was attended by Stephen Schneck, Chair of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom; Megan Boldin, Chargé d'Affaires at the US Embassy in Dhaka; Eric Gillan, Political and Economic Counselor; and Sima Hasan, Senior Policy Analyst for the Commission.
