Meghalaya Honeymoon Tragedy Shocks Nation: MP Chief Minister Urges Amit Shah for CBI Investigation

Following the disappearance of Indore-based Sonam Raghuvanshi in Meghalaya, after her spouse Raja was discovered deceased in a ravine in Sohra, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav stated that he has appealed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for a directive to initiate a CBI investigation into the matter.

Yadav mentioned that he had conversed with Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma about the issue, and added that the police force of Madhya Pradesh was in contact with officials in the northeastern state.

A woman named Sonam Raghuvanshi (25), together with her spouse Raja Raghuvanshi (29), disappeared on May 23 shortly after leaving a homestay in Nongriat village within the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya; this occurred just moments into their honeymoon period.

On June 2, Raja's body was discovered in a deep ravine close to a waterfall in the Sohra region, approximately 20 kilometers from the homestay.

However, the Meghalaya police, who have filed a murder case following the discovery of Raja's body, still haven't received any leads regarding Sonam's location.

On a tweet on X, CM Yadav stated, "Madhya Pradesh strongly supports the family of Smt Sonam Raghuvanshi during this time of distress."

"I have spoken with the Chief Minister of Meghalaya regarding this issue. High-ranking police officers from Madhya Pradesh continue to maintain regular communication with those in Meghalaya. I have appealed to the esteemed Union Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah, to direct the CBI to investigate this incident," he stated.

The Chief Minister stated that all feasible measures were being taken to guarantee the secure return of Sonam Raghuvanshi.

On Friday, the family of the missing woman requested the Centre to transfer the case to the CBI following their discontentment with the investigation conducted by the police from the north-eastern state.

Speaking with PTI, Sonam’s father, Devi Singh Raghuvanshi, claimed that his daughter had been kidnapped and was still being held captive by her abductors. He also criticized the Meghalaya police for their inadequate investigation into the case.

Following their wedding on May 11, the newlyweds departed for Meghalaya on May 20 to begin their honeymoon.

On May 22nd, they reached Mawlakhiat village aboard a hired moped. After parking their vehicle, they descended into the canyon via a steep trail of approximately 3,000 steps to explore the renowned living-root bridges in Nongriat village. There, they spent the night at a local homestay before departing early the next day.

On May 24, their scooter was discovered left behind at a café along the route from Shillong to Sohra.

At the location where Raja's body was discovered, according to the Meghalaya police, items including a woman’s white top, a medication strip, a section of an LCD screen from a mobile phone, and a smartwatch were confiscated.
