ADDIS ABABA – The Ethiopian Athletics Federation (EAF) has declared that the 13th edition of the Ethiopian Under-20 Athletics Championships along with the 4th iteration of the Ethiopian Under-18 Athletics Championships will take place between May 26 and June 1, 2025, in Dire Dawa City.

President of the Federation, Commander Seleshi Sehen, emphasized the importance of these championships, noting that their purpose is to discover and cultivate promising athletes capable of representing Ethiopia globally. This initiative will further strengthen the country’s prominent standing in the field of athletics worldwide.

Commander Seleshi stated, "The championships go beyond being merely a contest; they serve as an essential part of our strategy to identify promising athletes for the coming years." According to his recent statement in a press release, these chosen athletes will get the chance to participate in the forthcoming African Championships for youth categories U-18 and U-20, which are set to occur in Abuja, Nigeria.

Mehari Negash, the EAF Communication Head, highlighted the organization's dedication to nurturing young athletes at the foundational stage. He said, "Our aim is to establish routes for young athletes so they can eventually join our national squads."

He mentioned that the championships will offer young athletes under 20 years old from different regional clubs a stage to display their skills and gain chances for advancing their sporting careers.

The event anticipates drawing around 1,192 participants hailing from eight zones, two municipal authorities, and 35 sports clubs, thereby constituting an important assembly for nurturing youthful prowess within Ethiopian track and field. While ongoing arrangements persist, the federation continues to express hopefulness regarding how this championship will shape the trajectory of athletics in Ethiopia moving forward.
