Ethiopian Women Unite: 3rd National Conference Kicks Off

The Third National Conference of the Ethiopian Women's Federation was successfully organized with the theme "Establishing a Fair and Democratic System," taking place locally.

The gathering centered around bolstering women's rights, enhancing social justice, and advocating for participatory democratic governance in Ethiopia.

The conference gathered a varied assembly of attendees such as government representatives, civil society figures, advocates for women’s rights, and developmental collaborators. This array of stakeholders took part in meaningful discussions focused on pinpointing actionable approaches to boost women's empowerment and elevate their influence within Ethiopia’s political, societal, and financial landscapes.

At the beginning of the event, the President of the Ethiopian Women's Federation, Askale Lema, highlighted the importance of the gathering. She stated, "We are now at a pivotal moment in our country’s development."

This conference isn’t merely an occasion—it’s a summons for action. We must join forces to build a world where women aren’t just listened to but play pivotal roles in democracy. It’s our duty to guarantee each woman has the power to secure her deserved position in society.

Askale similarly emphasized the federation’s continuous endeavors to enhance women's involvement in politics and their economic autonomy. She underscored the creation of multiple female-driven economic groups as a tangible measure towards attaining gender parity and fiscal self-sufficiency.

Additionally, Women and Social Affairs State Minister Hikma Keyredin addressed the assembly, stressing the critical importance of transforming policy commitments into tangible actions.

She emphasized that genuine advancement necessitates crafting and executing comprehensive plans that create nurturing spaces for women in every field. She stated, "The well-being and achievement of women are crucial for establishing a fair and balanced community."

During the conference, attendees delved into critical topics such as gender-based violence, women’s participation in leadership positions, economic integration, and the significance of education along with legal safeguards. Sessions and interactive sessions were geared towards synchronizing local initiatives with international standards for gender equality.

As the Federation carries forward its advocacy and community mobilization initiatives, it has urged all parties involved—including government bodies, non-governmental organizations, and private enterprises—to participate actively in this nationwide conversation. Through these collaborative endeavors, they aim to foster a more equitable, inclusive, and democratic Ethiopia.
