The Baltimore Ravens will have to play without a crucial defensive player, Safety Ar'Darius Washington, who suffered an Achilles tear during an off-season training session.

Washington, who is 25 years old, was entering his fifth year with the NFL and was anticipated to play a crucial role for the Ravens this season. However, he is now likely to sit out the whole campaign.

Adam Schefter broke the news on Tuesday evening, stating that he also underwent an MRI to verify the grim prognosis.

As an additional setback for Washington, he is currently serving on his RFA tender and had been aiming for a substantial pay raise by the conclusion of the 2025 season.

In April, he inked a one-year contract worth $3.263 million, with expectations for him to take on a significant role alongside Kyle Hamilton in the defense.

In his initial three years with the Ravens, he had minor roles—appearing in three, then another three, and finally two games—but in 2024, he participated in all 16 games.

As we move into 2025, and following his recent re-signing with Baltimore just under a month ago, it was anticipated that Washington would assume an expanded position within the defense.

This injury is expected to speed up the growth of first-round selection Malaki Starks, chosen 27th overall from Georgia, yet it puts the Ravens in an uncomfortable position.

Washington suited up for the TCU Horned Frogs as part of their collegiate football team and earned the title of Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year in 2019.

The player from Louisiana is now anticipated to miss most of, if not the entire, 2025 season, hindering his growth during this crucial period that was meant to shape his career significantly.
