Emma Raducanu Chooses New Coach for Wimbledon, Dealing a Blow to Andy Murray’s Hopes After Djokovic Split

• It is reported that Raducanu has consented to keep collaborating with her present coach.
• In a 2022 interview, Murray mentioned her as one of his ideal athletes he dreams of coaching.

Emma Raducanu is said to have chosen Mark Petchey as her coach for the grass court season following a successful collaboration up until now.

The individual who is 22 years old is poised to proceed with this plan. Wimbledon along with the person who assisted her in achieving eight victories out of eleven bouts over the course of two months.

It has come as a shock to Andy Murray ' hopes for an imminent comeback into coaching alongside Raducanu following his separation from Novak Djokovic on Tuesday.

Murray identified Raducanu as his ideal female player to collaborate with in 2022, however, he began his coaching journey by assisting Djokovic for a six-month period.

However, Raducanu, who previously collaborated with Petchey during the summer of 2020, aims to continue her development under her present coach. The Telegraph Coincidentally, Petchy was Murray’s former coach.

Petchey is her eighth coach in four years but has assisted the young player in relaxing occasionally, focusing on enjoyable warm-up activities like spikeball or soccer.

Raducanu reached the quarterfinals of the Miami Open in March and has been showcasing some of her finest tennis recently with Petchey’s guidance.

Petchey, who is 54 years old, works for the Tennis Channel, but since they don’t hold the broadcasting rights for Wimbledon, he can freely assist Raducanu with her favorite surface this coming summer.

However, his television obligations might hinder him from taking on a more substantial, long-term role with Raducanu.

Regarding Murray, he is searching for a fresh opportunity just six weeks prior to Wimbledon, where Raducanu concluded his SW19 tenure by withdrawing from their doubles partnership during the previous summer.

He Murray stunned the tennis world in November by announcing he would be coaching his old rival, but results tailed off after a positive start.

‘Thanks to Novak for the unbelievable opportunity to work together,’ said Murray. ‘And thanks to his team for all their hard work over the past six months. I wish Novak all the best for the rest of the season.’

Djokovic stated: "Thanks, Coach Andy, for all your effort, enjoyment, and encouragement during the past six months both on and off the tennis court; I truly appreciated strengthening our bond as friends."

Following a 10-day preseason training camp in Marbella during the previous winter, Murray’s inaugural tournament with his new coach was at the Australian Open.

In reaching the semifinals, Djokovic delivered one of his finest performances over the past year; however, he had to withdraw due to a muscle injury during his match with Alexander Zverev.

However, ever since Melbourne, Djokovic has lost his opening match in four out of his five tournaments, with the only exemption being his progression to the finals in Miami, where he was defeated in straight sets by Jakub Mensik.
