Ed Miliband’s Wife Joins Opposition to New Housing Project in NIMBY Clash
Prime Minister Keir Starmer has called out 'nimbyists' for hindering Britain’s progress – however, the spouse of Energy Minister Ed Miliband appears to be unaware of this message.
It has come to light that she has become part of a local initiative opposing the construction of a modest apartment building close to their $5 million Victorian house.
Even more awkwardly for Mr Miliband, one of the major concerns raised by his spouse Justine Thornton’s associates among campaign groups pertains to several 'loud' air-source heat pumps scheduled to be installed externally at the contentious project.
And the Energy Secretary is leading calls for such heat pumps to be installed on ALL new buildings, even though critics point out they cost several times as much as gas boilers, which face being banned.
The conflict has reached the conservation zone of Dartmouth Park in the progressive northern part of town. London , where Turkish property developer Dicle Guntas Girman, 36, four years ago bought a 1930s detached house for £1.7m.
It lies close to the elegant villa occupied by former Labour Leader Mr Miliband, his spouse Dame Justine, who is a 54-year-old High Court judge, along with their two sons—were once criticized for allegedly leading a lifestyle far exceeding the expectations of those they represented after details emerged about their possession of two kitchens.

Mrs. Girman along with her firm HGG London Limited have submitted an application to tear down the £1.7 million property and construct a multi-story building featuring six apartments spread across several floors, which together would be valued at over £6 million.
Well-heeled neighbours including actor Benedict Cumberbatch are outraged – and so is Mr Miliband’s spouse.
Maybe aware of her spouse’s government pledge to construct 1.5 million homes by 2030, her official letter opposing the proposal states that she isn’t opposed to all types of development.
This is the only instance where she says 'Not In My Back Yard'.
Lady Justine penned a letter to the council stating, 'There is no objection to the concept of redevelopment into apartments, especially considering the necessity for increased housing.'
'The suggested design seems excessively tall, overly large, and too densely packed for its land size when compared with the neighboring homes and the broader conservation zone.'
'The adjacent Highgate Newtown housing project exemplifies considerate architecture that complements surrounding buildings.'
‘This application presents another opportunity for the Council to demonstrate its commitment to the provision of sympathetically designed housing by acknowledging the benefit of redevelopment whilst rejecting this particular design.’

Earlier this year, Mr. Starmer stated he would Put 'the nation's future prosperity above the caprices of nimbyists who have been hindering our progress for far too long,' he stated. He himself was a 'Yimby' – Yes In My Back Yard.
The creators of the apartments claim they can 'provide new homes on a previously developed area in compliance with national and local planning goals'.
Furthermore, Labour aims to facilitate the construction of these 1.5 million homes through its new Planning Policy Framework. They state that the redevelopment of brownfield sites "ought to be approved except when significant damage would occur."
Mr Miliband’s spouse undoubtedly faces many adversaries as well; nonetheless, the contention discredits replacing a sound home with one that doesn’t classify as a brownfield site. Furthermore, they argue that the proposed apartment building would overshadow the Victorian conservation area akin to how a Mediterranean resort might loom large.
However, many people are specifically irritated by the six exterior air-source heat pumps scheduled for the area — merely a small portion of the millions Mr. Miliband, aged 55, aims to implement throughout Britain.
Neighbour Karla de Montbel objects to the development’s ‘increased noise as the heat pumps (6!!) are inadequate for the size and also located too close to neighbours’.
Ruth Liebling states: “Placing six heat pumps inside a structure at ground level will result in persistent noise pollution for adjacent properties since they are very close to these areas.”

In his official capacity as part of the government—but maybe not during meals in either of his home kitchens—Mr. Miliband has pledged to 'confront the blockers, the procrastinators, and the obstructors' hindering his push for 'Net Zero,' aimed at preventing Britons from using fossil fuels.
Kevin Hollinrake, the shadow housing secretary, stated in the Times: "Red Ed has joined the rather select group of 14 other current cabinet members who have raised objections to housing projects in their constituencies."
