Bulawayo Council Mandates Dog Leashing in Latest Ordinance
BULAWAYO, May 6 (LiveNews) — The Bulawayo City Council has begun implementing the dog tethering order aimed at reducing the increasing number of stray dogs responsible for many reported canine bite incidents.
The operation is scheduled to take place from May 5 through June 5 this year.
"When enforcing the tie-up order, the council is requiring residents to keep their dogs confined within enclosed areas because the city has seen a rise in dog bite incidents, which raises worries about a potential rabies outbreak," stated the council in a notification to residents.
As stated, this directive, which works alongside the Zimbabwe Republic Police and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, aims at enforcing the dog licensing and control regulations.
The council stated that residents failing to adhere to the order will have their dogs euthanized.
